What causes hair loss?

by admin on May 28, 2009

There have been many generations of both Men and Women of various ages wondering why they were slowly, or rapidly experiencing hair loss. Hair loss is generally more common in middle to older-aged men that any other demographic. To get a good solid understanding as to why you are losing your hair it’s best to understand the basic cycle that hair goes through so that we can understand the different stages that things can go wrong.

Hair grows roughly a half-inch per month, and the average person looses 50 to 100 hairs every day. Hair loss is defined by the loss of hairs exceeding the growth of new hairs. Your hairs have 2 stages, the first is growth, the second is a resting phase which the hairs do not grow, but are held in place by their own systems combined with your scalp. When hair loss occurs there can be numerous reasons, but before you start pointing your fingers at your Mom or Dad you should consider the following list of some of the more common causes of hair loss.

• Poor Nutrition

• Genetics or Heredity

• Medication

• Disease

• Medical Treatments

• Hormonal Changes

• Hair Products

• Scalp Infections

These are merely some of the non-specific reasons for hair loss, there are certain patterns of hair loss that have been coined certain terms, as well as having special medications created to magically cure them. Unfortunately hair loss is almost always caused by one of the above items, the patterns of hair loss cannot alone diagnose the reason for your hair falling out.

There are certain conditions that exist that can cause hair loss, below I will list them with a brief overview of their common signs, and a brief description of the condition.hairloss_aa

Androgenetic Alopecia : This condition is passed genetically, so you can blame your parents for this one, either side of your family! Typically occurring in a pattern this condition causes each growth-cycle of hair to becoming rooted more shallow, and growing thinner than the last cycle, causing hair to fall out more easily or appear as if there is less hair due to the thinning of the hairs themselves.

Typically this is caused by a large array of different skin conditions that can also effect the scalp. The reason for the inflammation is unknown and there is no known cure or this form of hair loss.

hairloss_te• Telogen Effluvium : This form of hair loss isn’t a disease, condition, nor hereditary gift from previous generations in your family. Telogen Effluvium is basically shock-loss of hair. At times when your body goes through strenuous events you can lose your hair, fortunately it’s almost always temporary and returns within a few months of the dramatic-event being over or resolved. Surgery and stress are two big culprits for this form of hair loss. Your body during it’s recuperation period after these stressful events causes it to weaken the hair-growth system on some people causing them rapid hair loss and/or thinning.

There are medications available such as Propecia that should help on certain conditions.  See your doctor or contact a reliable online pharmacy for details.
